Structure is merely a vessel for a legal business, not a solution. It will not change the firm culture or make the firm profitable. As with any business, success is your customer service and relationships – you will stand or fall on those.

Looking at the various options for structure and set-up, this On Demand seminar provides insights into what best enables you to deliver to clients while maximising your returns, whether financial and/or lifestyle – in short, how to choose and implement a structure to suit you and the way you work, rather than vice versa.

Don Thomas
Thomas & Co Lawyers Limited
(incorporating Titirangi Law Centre)

Don commenced practice in 1971, became a principal in 1975 and was in sole practice from 1986 - 2016. Since then, he has been a director in Thomas & Co Lawyers Ltd, and merged with Titirangi Law Centre in 2017.

Don completed Legal Practice Management, levels 1 and 2, at the University of NSW (Armidale). He was an Auckland District Law Society Council Member 1979 - 1985, on its Forms and Costs Committees 1979 - 1985 and on the Auckland District Legal Aid Committee 1980 - 1985. He is a Council member of the New Zealand Society of Notaries.

Prue Tyler
SHIFT Advisory Limited

Prue is a senior financial services lawyer with around 17 years’ private practice and in-house experience spanning across corporate lawfinancial services regulation, KiwiSaver, funds and superannuation. 

She is a director of SHIFT Advisory Limited which was incorporated in January 2018.  

Sam Bassett
Moore Stephens Markhams (Auckland)

Sam is a Business Services Partner at Moore Stephens Markhams Auckland. He has been in private practice accounting since 1993 and a partner since 2001. Sam works with small to medium sized legal firms across NZ assisting with profit-improvement strategies and firm management issues.

He specialises in legal firm valuation and providing litigation support, particularly with valuation and s 15 disparity calculations in accordance with the provisions of the Property (Relationships) Act. 

Sam enjoys working in the legal sector and it has become a significant part of his overall general business advisory practice in recent years.
