goAML is the prescribed method by which reporting entities submit Suspicious Activity Reports (SARs) and Prescribed Transaction Reports (PTRs) to the Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU).
It will be essential for reporting entities to understand when the obligation to file an SAR or a PTR arises, how long they have to manage the process, and the information that they will need to collect, as there are mandatory data requirements.
It will greatly assist practitioners to be as familiar as possible with the goAML system to ensure they can meet their legislative reporting obligations. This session will be presented by a legal practitioner (herself a former AML Compliance Officer), and a member of the FIU, who together will provide valuable insights into the working of the goAML system, the issues that can arise, the most common errors made when filing reports and how the FIU handles the data it receives.

Barrister and Solicitor
Fiona Hall is a barrister and solicitor specialising in AML/CFT, consumer credit and privacy law. After her admission to the bar in 1987, Fiona initially practised general commercial litigation and banking law at large law firms in both Auckland and London, before moving in-house. Her in-house counsel roles covered a number of credit and credit related businesses as well as for a government regulator.
Fiona has acted as the head of compliance and both privacy and AML officer in conjunction with her legal roles. She has developed and implemented a number of AML/CFT programmes and has been a presenter at many AML/CFT conferences and fora.
As a member of the ADLS subcommittee on AML/CFT, Fiona has played an integral part in engaging with the legislators and regulators to ensure the particular challenges facing the profession are heard and understood. She is currently advising and assisting a number of law firms, big and small, to implement their AML programmes, while continuing to advise existing reporting entities as the law evolves.

Carol has been with the FIU since August 2013. Carol’s team of five look after all reports (Suspicious Activity Reports, Prescribed Transaction Reports and Border Cash Reports) that are received by the 2400 currently registered reporting entities and Customs. This involves receiving, validating and completing an initial assessment on them before they are accepted into the goAML system.
Carol and her team also look after training for all reporting entities with respect to AML/CFT, Phase 2, and all forms of reporting. She is also the liaison with key partners and is the point of contact for the three sector supervisors on compliance matters.
Prior to joining the FIU, Carol’s background involved conducting investigations in both the Wellington CIB and the Banking Industry.
