Paul is a barrister practising at Shortland Chambers, Auckland. He has wide experience in areas of professional discipline and regulation in the legal profession. He has prosecuted numerous cases in the Disciplinary Tribunal and has also appeared in the High Court and Court of Appeal in cases relating to professional discipline and other aspects of regulation of the legal profession. He is a convenor of the National Standards Committee and has been extensively involved in Standards Committee training since the outset of the LCA. He is a contributing author to Professional Responsibility in New Zealand (LexisNexis) and was the consulting editor for The Laws of New Zealand: Lawyers and Conveyancers.
Bruce is a consultant to Jones Young, Lawyers, Auckland. His areas of practice have included commercial property and related commercial and company work, residential property, subdivisions and developments, local government, and fisheries law.
Bruce’s present interest is lawyers’ professional obligations and duties. He is and has been a member of a Standards Committee since August 2008, and before that had been a member of a Complaints Committee for three years, and a costs reviser for a number of years.
Matt is an insurance litigation specialist, with a particular focus on policy disputes and negligence claims against professionals.
Matt graduated from the University of Otago in 1994. He spent ten years working in the insurance industry as both a claims handler and underwriter before returning to private practice in 2006.
Throughout his career, Matt has focussed on claims against professionals and the resolution of indemnity issues. His work as a solicitor, insurance claims handler and underwriter means that he has a unique understanding of the insurance industry and the demands placed upon it. Matt uses his experience to provide clear, direct advice and is always mindful of the ultimate strategy of achieving the best outcome for his clients in the most cost-effective manner.
Matt has significant court and dispute resolution experience, having represented clients in the District Court, High Court and Court of Appeal.
