Library access

1. Where is the ADLS High Court Library?

The Library is at the back of the High Court building on the lower ground floor. Entering from Parliament Street, turn left and walk to the end of the corridor, then turn right just before the practitioners’ lounge. There is also card access directly into the Library from Anzac Avenue. See the locations page for more detail and a map.

2. How do I get after-hours access?

Your ADLS membership card can be enabled for access to the Library after hours, using the Anzac Avenue door. After-hours access costs $25.00 per year. Please contact the Law Society (Jenna Wetherall) if you would like to enable after-hours access.

3. How do I get access to District Court Libraries?

To access the Albert Street branch go in main court entrance (corner of Kingston and Albert Sts) and take the lift to the third floor. Directly opposite the lift is a door marked 'Solicitors Only'. This is the Library. You need the door code to enter. See the Library locations page for information about accessing the other branch libraries.

4. I'm not a member of ADLS - can I still get access to the Library and Research Centre?

The Library by-laws (Rules) state who may have access. Go to the by-laws page.

5. How do I get a PIN for photocopying and printing?

To get a pin number so that you can use the copiers and printer at the Auckland High Court Library please contact the Library on phone 09 307 8345, or email us. Please specify if you also need the pin number enabled for Manukau and/or Albert St branch libraries.

6. What resources are available?

The Library provides document delivery, research services, inter-library loans, training, and the hiring of admissions ceremony regalia.

7. How do I request research or document delivery?

For both research and document delivery you can either phone us on 3078345 or email research@adls.org.nz, or use the online forms. 

8. Can I take books out?

Books may be borrowed from the Auckland High Court Library only with the express approval of the Librarian or representative. Books may be borrowed from the branch libraries for use in the courtrooms or Judges' chambers of the court to which the Library is annexed. For more information go to the by-laws page.

9. How do I subscribe to LINX?

Members can access LINX for free at the High Court and branch libraries, or subscribe to it online or on CD. For more information about LINX and how to subscribe see the LINX website.

Wigs and gowns

10. How do I hire a gown for court?

Just come into the library, or to make a booking phone us on 09 307 8345. View a list of fees.

11. How do I get a wig and gown for an admissions ceremony?

Make an advance booking by contacting the Library by email or phone 09 307 8345. View a list of fees. Please note that we cannot guarantee you a gown as we only have a limited number.

12. Can I borrow a wig for a fancy dress party?

No. Sorry wigs, gowns and bibs are only available to practitioners for court and admissions ceremonies.
