This is a selective guide to Australian legal and government web sites. The selection criteria require that a site either includes primary legal information or provides a comprehensive overview of law-related sites for the relevant jurisdiction.
Australasian Legal Information Institute (AUSTLII)
Provides free access to Federal and State legislation, statutory instruments and case law from courts and tribunals. The site also provides access to secondary legal materials such as reports, law journals and treaties.
LAWLEX
This is a free search site which enables a user to search Commonwealth and state legislation simultaneously. Results are organised according to jurisdiction and will link through to the full text version of the Act. Legislative notes pertaining to currency and amendments since the consolidation of the Act are also provided.
Researching Australian Law by Nichollas Pengelley
Published in 2006 this paper provides an overview of researching Australian law. It includes information on and links to parliamentary material, case law, legal journals and legal dictionaries.
