Law Commission’s consultation on trusts a valuable process
On Tuesday 12 February 2013 ADLS hosted a consultation for Auckland practitioners with Law Commissioner, Professor Geoff McLay, on the Commission’s Review of the Law of Trusts: Summary of Preferred Approach paper. The event was very well attended and generated a great deal of questions and discussion from those present regarding the Law Commission’s proposals.
In a letter written to thank ADLS for hosting this event, Professor McLay said that the success of the Law Commission’s projects depends very much on lawyers and law societies taking an active interest in the preliminary proposal documents and providing views as to the workability and appropriateness of the proposed reforms. He considers meetings such as the one held last week, where a free flow of ideas allowed for discussion as well as criticism, to be an indispensable part of the Commission’s process.
The deadline for written submissions closes today 22 February and practitioners are encouraged to provide their views to the Commission by email to firstname.lastname@example.org.
