ADLSI Council

The Council consists of the President and four other elected members with the three appointed Council members (1 x Appointed Lawyer Councillor and 2 x Appointed non-lawyer Councillors).

Brian Keene QC Small   

Brian Keene QC (President)

Brian joined the ADLS Council in 2011. He was appointed Vice-President in 2013 and then President in 2014. Brian was made Queen's Counsel in 2006 following 24 years at the Bar. His early years saw him practise as a general litigator and then as a commercial and securities specialist. He was formerly Managing Partner at Morpeth Gould & Co.

Joanna Pidgeon Small  

Joanna Pidgeon (Vice President)

Joanna is the Principal at Pidgeon Law. Joanna specialises in property law. She chairs the ADLS's Property Disputes Committee and serves on the Property Law Committee. She is also a trustee of the Auckland City Mission.

Tony Bouchier Small  

Tony Bouchier

Tony is a Barrister sole, having been admitted to the Bar in 1997. He holds an MBA and LLb from the University of Auckland. He is a company director and has held many voluntary offices, most recently President of the Criminal Bar Association NZ for a term of 4 years, and currently Chair of the Te Rangimarie Charitable Trust.

Vikki Brannagan

Vikki Brannagan is an experienced CEO, company director and governance professional. Currently running her own strategic management consultancy company, she has broad governance and leadership experience across a wide variety of industries in the commercial, public and not-for-profit sectors.


Marie Dyhrberg Small  

Marie Dyhrberg QC

Marie Dyhrberg QC is a senior barrister specialising in criminal law and appears regularly at the District Court, High Court and Court of Appeal in New Zealand. She also appears with clients before the Parole Board. Her experience and expertise were recognised in her appointment as Queen’s Counsel in 2014.

John Hagen Small  

John Hagen

John Hagen is a former partner and chairman of accountancy practice, Deloitte, and is currently a forensic accountant. He is a former President, Fellow and Life Member of the New Zealand Institute of Chartered Accountants, and the inaugural chairman of the Accounting Standards Review Board. John is currently a director of Auckland Uniservices Ltd.

Stephanie Nicholson Small  

Stephanie Nicolson

Stephanie is an experienced senior litigator at Lowndes Jordan whose main area of practice is commercial litigation. She was admitted to the Bar in 2003 and holds bachelors degrees in law and science. She specialises in civil litigation, primarily in the context of commercial and contract law.

Mary Anne Shanahan

Mary Anne is a sole practitioner who has worked for three decades serving the community of West Auckland. She is a member of the Broadcasting Standards Authority and a trustee of Odyssey House Trust.

Bernard Smith Small  

Bernard Smith

Mr Smith is Special Counsel at Dawson Harford & Partners and has had a long involvement with ADLS. He has extensive experience in the areas of corporate finance and commercial law. He has over 25 years’ experience advising both lenders and borrowers on domestic and international lending transactions, including project funding and acquisitions.
