Strategic Review
The new Council of ADLS Inc has been busy since taking office on March 10, 2011. There have been 3 Council meetings with very full agendas. In addition, Council members have met twice for two facilitation sessions on two half days over two weekends to progress the wider strategic review of ADLS Inc which members voted to have undertaken in the February postal vote. Kevin McCaffrey, Director of Effective Governance Limited has facilitated each of these sessions.
During these facilitated sessions Council members have been considering the core offerings and activities of ADLS Inc and possible proposed activities and offerings for the future. The current Council and operational structure of ADLS Inc is also being fully discussed. The Council is therefore on track to come back to members once the review is complete.
Eighth Edition Agreement for Sale and Purchase of Real Estate (version 4)
With the Unit Titles Act coming in to force on 20 June 2011 a large number of forms produced by ADLS Inc are being reviewed. The legislative time frames are very tight and the ADLS Inc Council has agreed to an urgent review of all forms which are affected by the Unit Titles Act so that practitioners can continue with business as usual.
ADLS Inc Committees
ADLS Inc Committees continue to produce high quality submissions on a wide range of legal issues and proposed legislative changes. A submission on the centralisation of Auckland (civil and family) courts and Comments on Review of the Law of Trusts-Second Issues Paper are a couple of recent examples of the work being undertaken by ADLS Inc committees. The Council extends its gratitude to all our committee members for their commitment and input.
CLE and Events
The CLE and Events programme continues to grow from strength to strength and the calendar is very full for 2011. The Council is particularly grateful to speakers who present CLE sessions and assist and participate with events as the time commitment is significant.
Member Support
Of particular importance to Council is the ongoing support of members of the profession and how such support can be enhanced. This matter is being considered as part of the strategic review. The Council is delighted by the continuing support of members for ADLS Inc and the products and services it offers.
Christchurch Practitioners
The Council resolved at its April meeting for the ADLS Christchurch Earthquake Fund totalling more than $13,000 to be sent to the Canterbury- Westland branch Benevolent Fund. This donation consists of a $10,000 donation from ADLS Inc together with contributions from individual members of ADLS Inc. ADLS Inc also donated $5000 following the September earthquake. The Council would like to repeat its appreciation to all those members who made contributions to the fund.
Legal aid changes
Liaison with the President and members of the Criminal Bar Association continues. Members of the ADLS Inc Council recognise the impact recent changes in legal aid has had on many criminal law barristers and are keen to offer support as appropriate.
